Gl Holtegaard is a gallery with changing exhibitions of contemporary and modern art. Our ambition is to present international art that offers a broad public experiences and food for thought and contributes to the aesthetic debate here in Denmark.
The exhibition programme at Gl Holtegaard comprises both remarkable, living artists as well as important names from classical art history. Once a year, Gl Holtegaard curates and produces a group exhibition featuring new, international art. Here the emphasis is on such artistic media as installations and films as well as established artists that have never or only rarely been on display in Denmark. The programme also includes a large-scale exhibition with a classical artist. Thanks to contributions from a number of private foundations and public sponsors, it has been possible over the years to show exhibitions of works by such artists as Egon Schiele, Camille Claudel, M.C. Escher and Ansel Adams.
Apart from the programme of changing exhibitions, during each year Gl Holtegaard is the setting for a host of activities and events. During the summer months, it features a family day with workshops, theatre and koncersts for children, opera in the baroque garden, garden walks and the traditional Apple Day, when the apples are harvested and the public, young and old, can taste the newly pressed juice and other apple specialities. In connection with each exhibition, Gl Holtegaard hosts a series of lectures and artist talks.
